DREAMer of the Week!
This week's DREAMers of the week are the
hundreds of immigrant students and advocates who organized and
participated in DREAM Graduation ceremonies across the country.
Tuesday, June 23, 2009, was a great day for the DREAM Act movement, and
we applaud your efforts on behalf of undocumented youth and their
families!
Gains
-
National DREAM Graduation.
On Tuesday, June 23, 2009, the United We DREAM coalition hosted a
graduation event in Washington, DC. Over 500 students from 15
states participated in the event. Speakers included Hilary
Shelton, NAACP vice president for advocacy; Josh Bernstein, SEIU
director of immigration; Maribel Solivan, College Board associate
director of advocacy; and Bill Kamela, Microsoft senior director of
education and workplace policy. Photos of the ceremony are

here. In addition to the event in DC, solidarity events
were held from coast to coast.
Tuesday's events received unprecedented print, radio, and television
coverage. Check out the

Orange County Register,
Univision, the
Denver Daily News, and
Education Week. Television news stations present included
Telemundo, teleSUR, CNNenEspañol, and several regional news
networks.

We exceeded our weekly goal of getting
an additional 5 cosponsors for the DREAM Act in the U.S. House of
Representatives. We have picked up 11 additional cosponsors
for a total of 80! This was our biggest jump since
introduction!

DREAMer of the Week!
This week's DREAMer of the week is
Stanford University President John Hennessy. President
Hennessy sent a
letter (dated June 3) to Senators Boxer (D-CA) and Feinstein (D-CA)
and Representatives Lofgren (D-CA) and Eshoo (D-CA)
voicing his "strong support for the DREAM Act." In a May 28
editorial,
Stanford's student newspaper, The Stanford Daily,
had called on
Hennessy to throw his support behind the DREAM Act.
Congratulations to all the students at Stanford who worked hard to get
this endorsement!
Gains

The Oakland City Council joined
a growing list of city councils that have approved
resolutions in support of the DREAM Act.

Reform for America Campaign
Launched. On Wednesday, June 3, hundreds of advocates from
31 states gathered in Washington, DC for the national launch of the
Reform Immigration for America Campaign. On Thursday,
Julieta, a dreamer from the University Leadership Initiative and a
member of the United We Dream coalition
spoke at the National Town Hall meeting.

The United We DREAM coalition will be holding a graduation event in
Washington D.C. on June 23, 2009 at 12 p.m. The ceremony will be
held at the Lower Senate Park (Louisiana Ave & D St. NW). You

DREAMer of the Week!
This week's DREAMers of the week are the
18 New York City-based business leaders who, along with Mayor Michael
Bloomberg, sent a
letter to Congress pledging their full support of the DREAM Act and
urging passage of the legislation. Thank you all for the strong
leadership you have shown in this campaign.

Upcoming Events

Reform for America Campaign Launch
and Summit. Close to 400 leaders from immigrant community,
labor, and faith organizations from around the country will be
meeting June 3-5, 2009, at a
summit in Washington, DC, to build momentum for the passage of
just and humane immigration reform. The United We Dream
Network will be represented by a delegation of 25 youth leaders.

DREAM National Graduation.
The United We Dream coalition will be holding a graduation event in
Washington, DC, on June 23, 2009. Similar events will be
organized on the same day around the country. More information
will be available in the coming weeks. (Check out the
