Students' Stories

"We ARE Americans: Undocumented Students Pursuing the American Dream," by William Perez, a professor of education at Claremont Graduate University, was Publishers Weekly's "pick of the week" for the week of Aug. 3, 2009.  Among others, the book profiles Nora Preciado, a NILC staff attorney who, with Perez, was interviewed by a National Public Radio reporter for an "All Things Considered" segment that aired Sat., Aug. 22.  (8/24/09)

These testimonials relate the daily challenges and inspirational life experiences of undocumented youth who were brought to the U.S. when they were children.  They were collected from actual students by Dreamactivist.org and are available at http://dreamactivist.org/our-stories.  (3/09)

"Just One Thing Missing," the story of a college student "with good grades, an excellent work ethic, but no possible way to get a legal job.  She's lived in the U.S. since she was little, but [is undocumented].  Most of her friends and teachers don't even know."  As reported by Douglas McGray, a fellow at the New America Foundation, on the radio program "This American Life" (program "329: Nice Work if You Can Get It," Apr. 6, 2007).  (Click on the above link; then click on "Full Episode"; then fast-forward to minute 46:34.)
